Let the Light In
to Africa

tree

Why?

  • Roughly 1.7 billion people worldwide live without electricity. The lack is most acute in Sub-Saharan Africa, where over 500 million people have no modern energy.

  • After dark, millions of Africans living in rural areas are unable to work or do their homework and the poorest are forced to spend 15% of their total household income on fuel-based lighting sources, such as kerosene lamps.

  • Kerosene lamps are costly, inefficient, contribute to climate change and provide poor quality light while posing fire hazards. They also cause major respiratory illnesses.
